The Institute of Educational Leadership and Policy was established in December 2009. It is the first research and teaching unit in this area in research universities in Mainland China. The  The main research areas include education leadership, education policy evaluation, higher education, private education and educational synergetics.There are 17 staff members, including 5 professors, 6 associate professors, 3 ZJU 100 Young Professors.

The Institute emphasizes innovation in theory and real life professional issues. It has undertaken a number of projects funded by national funding or commissioned by the provincial government. It has played an important role in advanced training on educational leadership, university management & development and school culture construction.

The Institute aims to become a leading institute for education leadership and policy by establishing competitive advantage in education leadership and policy evaluation, increasing influence on national and regional policy-making and evaluation, as well as playing an active role in consultancy and education reform.

The institute currently offers doctoral and master's degree programs in Higher Education, as well as professional degrees in Education Master's and Education Doctorate.

The Institute for Education Leadership and Policy Studies is also affiliated with the Zhejiang University Institute of Higher Education.
